Jens Newig originally trained as a geoecologist, earned his doctorate in law, and qualified as a professor in political science and systems science.
Today, he is dedicated to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary governance research with a special focus on sustainability.
Among other things, he led a project funded by the European Research Council (ERC) on the impact of participatory governance on ecological outcomes and is involved in several other research projects as a principal investigator (PI).

Prof. Dr. Jens Newig is Professor of Sustainability and Governance and Dean of the Faculty of Sustainability at Leuphana University Lüneburg. He heads the Institute of Sustainability Governance and is an associate member of the Centre for the Study of Democracy.
